Description
Gold bars, sometimes referred to as gold
ingots, are minted in a variety of sizes ' anywhere between 1- and
400-oz. The largest bars typically carry the smallest premium, and are
often traded on major exchanges (i.e. COMEX, etc.) they are more
difficult to trade in the secondary market because of their size and
value. Investors more commonly take delivery in 1-oz. and 10-oz. gold
bar sizes.
Design
Gold bars feature a variety of designs. Some feature
elaborate designs, while others appear plainer. Virtually all list
information regarding the amount of gold, its purity, and the issuing
company.
Minting Information
Several different companies manufacture or hallmark, gold bars. The more popular hallmarks are: Credit Suisse, Johnson Matthey, Englehard and Produits Artistiques de M'taux Pr'cieux (PAMP). Gold bars can be easily traded and transported throughout the world.
