The Continental Congress in 1776 asked Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson to form a committee to design a Great Seal. Franklin proposed to the United States Great Seal to feature Moses, rather than the bald eagle. His design has Moses standing on the shore, parting the Red Sea, overwhelming Pharaoh who is in an open chariot, a sword in his hand. Rays from a pillar of fire in the clouds reaching to Moses, to express that he acts by command of God. Franklin added the motto Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God. Franklin’s design did not move forward but now there is an American Silver Commemorative.
The obverse has the handsome bust of Benjamin Franklin with the words Stand in Love. The reverse captures Franklin’s original design and motto. The commemorative bears the weight of One Troy Ounce and Fineness of .999 Silver.
