1/2oz Gold Canadian Maple Leaf

The first gold bullion coin to challenge the dominance of the South African Krugerrand was the Canadian Maple Leaf gold coin. In 1986, during the second expansion of the gold Maple leaf collection, a 1/2oz coin was introduced. This coin is minted in 99.99% purity with a face value of $20 CAD backed by the Canadian government.  

On the obverse of all of these coins dated to 2023 you’ll find an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Coins dated 2024 and beyond feature the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.   

The reverse of the coin features the image of the sugar maple leaf. This is the official emblem of the nation of Canada appearing in the logos of countless government agencies and as the centerpiece of the national flag.
